JCDecaux SE (Euronext Paris: DEC), the global leader in outdoor advertising, has officially signed an agreement to acquire VISTA COMMUNICATIONS Inc., a Tokyo-based specialist in taxi shelter advertising.
The strategic acquisition marks a significant expansion for JCDecaux’s Japanese operations, specifically through its joint venture, MCDecaux, as it moves into the high-demand taxi shelter segment in the heart of Japan.
Strengthening the Tokyo Network
VISTA COMMUNICATIONS has operated in Tokyo since 2012, managing a premium portfolio that includes:
-
29 Taxi Shelters: Strategically placed in high-traffic districts.
-
58 Advertising Faces: Including seven high-impact digital screens.
-
Prime Locations: Key presence in Shibuya, Roppongi, Shinjuku, Shinagawa, Akihabara, and Ueno.
These assets provide a vital service to both residents and international travelers, offering shelter and information in some of the world’s busiest urban corridors.
A Synergy of Premium Assets
The acquisition complements MCDecaux’s existing infrastructure in the capital. Prior to this deal, the company already managed over 850 B-Stop® (advertising bus shelters) across Tokyo.
By integrating VISTA’s taxi shelters, MCDecaux will offer a more comprehensive and consistent street furniture proposition. This includes a unified approach to design, cleaning, and maintenance across both bus and taxi networks, managed in coordination with the Tokyo Taxi Center.
Executive Insight
Jean-Charles Decaux, Co-CEO of JCDecaux, highlighted the strategic importance of the move:
“This acquisition is fully in line with JCDecaux’s selective external growth strategy focused on premium assets located in high-traffic urban environments. By becoming the leading operator of taxi shelters in Tokyo, MCDecaux is strengthening its footprint in a key market… JCDecaux will be even better positioned to meet the expectations of advertisers, cities and citizens.”
MCDecaux’s Growing Japanese Reach
With this acquisition, MCDecaux reinforces its status as a dominant player in the Japanese OOH market. Currently, the company operates B-Stop® and CIP® (City Information Panels) in 43 cities nationwide, covering all 10 of Japan’s most populous metropolitan areas:
| Top 10 Japanese Cities Served | ||
| Tokyo | Yokohama | Osaka |
| Nagoya | Sapporo | Fukuoka |
| Kawasaki | Kobe | Kyoto |
| Hiroshima |
As the Japanese outdoor advertising market continues to digitize, JCDecaux is now better equipped to deliver sustainable, service-oriented media solutions across one of the world’s most dynamic economies.
