Doritos & Cinépolis Launch ‘The Superhit Crunch’
Movie snacking in India just got a flavour upgrade. Doritos and Cinépolis India have joined forces to launch Doritos x Cinépolis Popcorn, a co-created snack that fuses the tang of Doritos Nachos with the cinema chain’s own signature popcorn. The product debuts exclusively through FOOVIES, Cinépolis India’s in-house food-and-entertainment platform, and is now rolling out across the brand’s theatres nationwide.
What’s Actually New Here
This isn’t a simple rebrand of existing popcorn with a Doritos sticker slapped on. According to the companies, the two teams worked together to build a snack that carries the seasoning and crunch profile Doritos is known for, layered onto Cinépolis’s own popcorn recipe. The result is being marketed as “The Superhit Crunch” — a nod to both the movie-going occasion and the product’s flavour intensity.
It’s a smart bit of category thinking. Popcorn and nachos are both staples of shared snacking, and putting them into a single bucket effectively lets moviegoers get two cravings satisfied with one purchase.
Why FOOVIES Matters to This Launch
FOOVIES isn’t just a menu — it’s Cinépolis India’s dedicated food-and-beverage ecosystem, covering in-seat ordering, regional menu variations, and limited-time offerings such as the chain’s Blockbuster Food Festival. Food and beverage sales reportedly make up close to 30 percent of Cinépolis India’s total revenue, which explains why the exhibitor is investing in original snack IP rather than just stocking third-party packaged goods at the counter.
Devang Sampat, Managing Director of Cinépolis India, framed the collaboration as a sign of how far cinema F&B has come as a business category. He noted that food is now as central to the cinema visit as the film, and that brands are approaching this space the way they’d approach any serious retail channel.
Why Doritos Is Betting on the Big Screen
For Doritos, the tie-up is less about a single product and more about occasion marketing. The brand has long positioned itself around shared, social snacking moments — game nights, house parties, hangouts — and cinemas fit naturally into that bucket as a place where people gather specifically to spend time together.
Ankit Agarwal, Marketing Director for Doritos at PepsiCo India, said the brand has always linked its snacking identity to social and shared moments, and that cinema outings fit squarely into that pattern.
The Bigger Picture: India’s Cinema Snacking Boom
The timing lines up with a broader shift in how Indian multiplexes make money. With an estimated 150 million people visiting cinemas across India every year, and snacking ranked among the country’s fastest-growing consumer categories, theatre chains are treating concessions as a genuine growth lever rather than a side hustle. Expect more FMCG brands to chase similar tie-ups as cinemas lean further into food innovation to keep audiences spending beyond the ticket price.
Where to Get It
Doritos x Cinépolis Popcorn is available now at Cinépolis cinemas across India, ordered either at the counter or through the FOOVIES in-seat ordering system, alongside the rest of the chain’s regular and limited-edition menu items.
